The 6 LPA Dream That Turned Into a Bangalore Scam (Part 1)
I had decided I wanted to be an independent woman. Rather than continuing with higher studies for various reasons, I wanted to start my own business. I was getting everything ready, but eventually, I made a major decision: I needed to move out of my home to a new city. I wanted to restart my life, explore, distance myself from family for a bit, and find some peace.
One day, I randomly clicked on a placement link sent by my college in a group chat. The package mentioned was 6 LPA. I thought, "Let me just try." I applied the very next day.
The hiring process and interview rounds were super quick; it only took a day and a half to complete everything. The next morning, I got an email with the word "Congratulations" in it. I was so happy! I thanked God and went straight to my grandma to share the good news. I had always wanted to be in Hyderabad rather than Bangalore, but I got placed in Bangalore, and that was perfectly alright with me.
However, as I was announcing this to my grandma and our maid, my father and relatives walked in. Instead of being happy, they were disappointed. They told me, "Just do it for a while, and then we will get you married." But I stood my ground. I fought for myself and went against their wishes. Eventually, they had no other option but to say yes to the job.
During the days between receiving the selection mail and waiting for the official offer letter, I turned 22. I felt so good about myself because I had completed my graduation at 21 and already secured a job. On the day of my birthday, I visited the temple to offer flowers to God and seek blessings for this new chapter.
Finally, the day came when I had to leave for Bangalore. I was so excited. I traveled to the city along with two of my friends from the same university department.
But our excitement was short-lived. We went to the office and quickly realized that it was a scam sales company. They told us our designation was "Business Associate Executive," but the reality of the work was completely different from what was promised.
Right there, the three of us decided we were going to leave this company. Luckily, we hadn't handed over any of our original documents!
However, we were now stuck. We had already paid one month's rent for our PG (hostel), which meant we had to stay. It was time to start searching for a new job from scratch. After two days, my friend Harshitha and I went for a new interview. Our other friend decided she wasn't willing to work right now.
